About

Janet Ison

For the last 20 years I have been consulting on strategic remuneration and reward management, performance management and organisational restructuring. My client work has covered a broad range of organisations in the private and public sectors in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. My consulting work has introduced me to most types of industry and size of organisation, and recently I have had the opportunity to develop an excellent understanding of knowledge-based, technology driven organisations.

From 1993 to 2001 I worked for Sheffield Ltd in Auckland, the last 6 years as Head of their remuneration practice. I then joined Watson Wyatt’s Auckland office for 3 years as a Senior Remuneration Consultant, and during that time was seconded for 2 months to their office in Mumbai, India. By 2004 my two sons were completing their university education, so I decided to embark on my “geriatric OE”, which was supposed to last for 6 months but ended up being 3½ years! I worked in the UK as a freelance consultant for several organisations, including the Norwich Union Insurance company, Breckland District Council and Experian plc, a company providing analytical, information and marketing services which is the global leader in its field. On my return I set up practice as a freelance consultant based in Auckland, but with the flexibility to go anywhere I am needed.

I have a Diploma of Personnel and Employee Relations from the University of Auckland. I wrote a book on remuneration policies and practice destined for line managers rather than HR specialists, called “Managing Pay: Getting the right rewards for your staff and for yourself”. It is now out of print, but available in some libraries.      It will be republished as an e-book soon – watch this space!

However, this is not an exhaustive list, and I have probably had the opportunity at some point to get an understanding of your particular industry or expertise! Click here to contact me, I would be delighted to have a no-obligation chat via email or phone about your particular needs.

The French Connection

I was born and brought up in Britain but my Dad was a New Zealander, so I have always had a Kiwi connection. But before coming to Auckland in 1985, I took a detour to France. Alors, je parle francais. For more details and my tips on what to see in Paris, click here.
